Support Removal
The best way I’ve found to remove supports is to soak the print in hot water for around 30 seconds, the supports peel off very easily after that. I’ve made a short video of my process below. If you’d rather have the text version, scroll on down!
I typically do this after I clean all resin off the print. I keep a separate container of water (an old Phở take out container) handy specifically for this purpose. When a print is being alcohol washed, I take the lid off the water container and microwave it for 2 minutes. You’ll usually see some semi-cured resin floating around in the container, but that’s fine. The water should be hot enough that you can’t keep your gloved hand in it for more than a few seconds. Place the print in the hot water and wait 30 seconds. Due to the water being so hot, I usually fish the print out with some needle nose pliers. Immediately after the print is removed from the water simply peel the supports off! This should leave a lot less damage to the print and make the whole process way easier.
Once you’re done you can leave the resin water container outside so the sun can cure all the residue floating around. If you want to dispose of the water just leave the top off and it’ll evaporate over time. You can then give the container a spin in your curing station, scraping off the cured resin when you’re done. Refill the container with water and repeat! Make sure to let all the water evaporate on the prints before curing them or else you’ll get a hazy residue. A small fan can help speed up this process if your impatient.
